Workshop Overview

Oil companies in the Middle East are being confronted with major challenges in developing and managing reservoirs with heavy oil and/or tar mats. Considerable amounts of moveable heavy oil can also be associated with tar mats in some reservoirs, creating additional challenges regarding recovery strategies, well placement and real-time measurements. The tar saturation is commonly unpredictable, at least at the level of detail needed to effectively place injection wells to minimise loss of mobile oil above the tar and to minimise the risk of side-tracking wells to get back above the tar.
