Digitalization of E&P Industry: Status and Roadmap to the Future

Tuesday, 12 June 2018, 08:30 - 11:00 hrs, Auditorium 15

Open to all registered attendees.

This session will focus on one of the hottest topics in the technology arena of the O&G upstream industry to date. Enabled by the rapid advances in data analytics and information technology, digitalization offers the opportunity for dramatic changes in the way E&P companies work collectively and across different disciplines, and how quickly and accurately critical technical decisions can be taken. Digitalization has already begun to show promise of improving workflows and operational efficiency, following similar achievements in other industries such as automotive, healthcare, logistics and media. For the O&G upstream industry, digitalization goes beyond geoscience, or the simple conversion of analog information into digital data. It is a revolution in the way digital information is created, stored, accessed, shared and managed for better and faster decision-making, in a very wide sense within E&P decision processes. The panel will discuss the maximization of information flows, including opportunities and challenges related to changing expectations, cultural transformation, outdated regulation, and skill shortages related to the digital world. Questions will be asked about the preparedness of E&P companies to deal with the cultural and organizational aspects of the predicted digital transformation, and the readiness of the technology to serve such ambitions. When approaching the Geoscience arena, and very pertinent for EAGE's communities, the forum will discuss on data access/processing/interpretation in the times of automation and artificial intelligence. The discussion will include the challenges of talent and skills gaps, highlighting the potential of Geoscience communities to lead the way in the digitalization of other departments of Upstream corporations.
